Comfort and Energy Savings with Destratification Fans

by | Feb 21, 2020 | Heating-and-Air-Conditioning

Destratification fans are ventilation devices that typically suspend from ceilings in industrial and commercial establishments. The dual purpose of the fans are energy savings and an improved environment for the building’s occupants. The fans manage this through temperature-difference mitigation between high and low levels by blowing ceiling air to the floor.

Air Stratification

Hot air will rise as a result of its spreading out when molecules get more active. The less-dense air rises and gets trapped in ceilings, leaving ground levels cold, especially with high ceilings. At every three feet, temperature generally changes by one degree Fahrenheit. In the case of a warehouse, the difference can be 10 degrees.

Overall Temperature

An additional concern is heat-loss through ceilings. The warmer the trapped air, the bigger the difference between inside and outside temperatures, representing higher rates of transfer and a more energy loss.

Summertime is also a concern, especially when heat builds up around running machinery. In these cases, resistance to temperature change in upper levels leaves heat stuck close by, which can be addressed with destratification fans.

Types

Destratification fans manufacturers produce different designs. Where paddle fans with large impeller blades aren’t feasible, case fans are a compact and effective solution and can come in round or square versions that drive a column of air. Ductless flush ceiling fans are a good choice for suspended or grid ceilings and come in useful for keeping vestibule floors dry and warm.

Talk to High-Performance Fan Manufacturer

Destratification fans manufacturers engineer high-performance solutions for commercial buildings, which can render energy savings of as much as 30 percent in warehouses, supermarkets, office buildings, data centers, medical centers, schools and more.
