Selecting the Best Lights

When you walk into almost any room there is a need most of us don’t even think twice about. Electricity gives us light, which makes us able to see objects in an enclosed space. We come in contact with man-made light every day, multiple times a day in Victoria, BC. There are three different types of lighting you will find at lighting stores, ambient or general lighting, recessed or track lighting and chandeliers and pendants. Here are some details about what they offer a space.

Ambient Lighting

Ambient lighting is the most common type of lighting. Usually, it is identified by a soft glow that seems to blanket space. It is also referred to as natural light. This light allows you to function in space without creating a harsh glare. In a room, this ambient light is created by finding and purchasing fixtures that make the light as flat as possible. This makes the light seem more natural. The main purpose of ambient light is to get you from one place to another safely. It is not meant to help see something close up or to highlight certain objects in a space. Ambient lighting is also called mood lighting because it captures the gentle curves of your face and also allows your pupils to dilate. This is a physical sign of affection.

Recessed and Track Lighting

Recessed lights provide more focused light in a space. The fixtures fit into holes in the ceiling and create a look like the lights are sunken into the ceiling. Track lighting is different. Track lights are mounted on a track that is attached to the ceiling. The track and the lights are visible. When trying to decide which of these lighting methods will work best for your space, consider the height of your ceiling. If your ceiling is high, either style may work for you. However, if your ceiling is low, the track lighting may be too harsh for the room. You do not want to over light space.

Chandeliers and Pendants

These light fixtures are great for taller ceilings. In areas where people generally do not walk, like where a dining room table is placed, a chandelier can be situated at a lower height. Chandeliers and pendant lights are very classic pieces that can enhance the beauty of foyers, over the tub, in the bathroom or a dining room. When you locate a great lighting store, they can help you create the space you have always dreamed of with just the right light.
