Board Your Pet at the Animal Hospital in Leawood, KS

While it can be difficult to leave your pet when you go on vacation, there may be times that you cannot take your dog with you. Fortunately, many veterinary clinics offer boarding services where your pet can stay while you’re away. If you plan to board your pet, here are three tips to prepare a dog or cat for his or her stay.

Get Pet Examined

Even though you’re boarding your dog at the animal hospital in Leawood, KS, you should still have him or her examined about 30 days prior to his or her stay in the vet’s kennel. Your vet can make sure your pet is healthy and updated on all of his or her shots prior to spending time in the boarding area. It will also give you a chance to see the kennel before leaving your pet there while you’re away.

Have Shots Updated

To ensure your pet stays healthy, you should make sure that his or her vaccinations are up-to-date. If some of the shots need to be updated, try to get your dog inoculated at least seven days prior to boarding him or her at the animal hospital. Some dogs have reactions to shots, which can include kennel cough, and if the vet suspects your dog is sick, then he or she won’t be allowed to stay.

Pack for Pet

To help your pet cope with any separation anxiety he or she may have when you leave him or her at the kennel in the animal hospital, you should bring his or her pet bed and favorite toy with him or her. Having something from home can help him or her cope with being in a strange place.

Although he or she will be fed a healthy diet at the Cherokee Animal Clinic, if he or she is on a special diet then you should pack enough food for the length of his or her stay. Preparing your pet can help make the stay easier on both you and your pet.
